A little about me…
Hi! I’m Amy. A 40-something-year-old mom, wife, and professional in education. I had my kids later on, so as many of my friends are talking about their kids getting their licenses and first jobs, I’m on potty training and kindergarten registration. It’s amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world, but sometimes it is lonely!
I have two incredible kids and a career that I love. But, I was feeling like I was barely keeping my head above the water. I constantly felt like the little time I had at home was not used wisely and I knew I had to get that under control.
At the same time, our finances were a mess. We were spending too much and not saving enough. I would spend money and then actually be surprised when I would check the bank account to see that the balance was much less than I thought it should be. I started to panic about the future and what would happen if we did not get ourselves on track. We worked too hard and had a decent income. We deserved better. Our kids deserved better.
And by “better” I mean financial security. Money in the savings account, money saved for college, retirement accounts. Instead, every we were taking all of this money and throwing it at minimum payments on credit card bills, student loans, and car payments. We never really went without, because if we didn’t have the money in the bank we would just charge it instead and this “lifestyle” was catching up to us.
Sound familiar? I also realized that there are so many of us out there and I was not alone. A successful career, but a hot mess express at home.
More importantly, I knew that once we got our time and our money organized and managed that we could live more fully. We could have more time for the things that were important to us, be able to save more, and build the life that we had dreamed of.
Life is calming down for us and it is amazing to finally feel at peace because we have a plan and we are working at it. Life is less overwhelming and we can live it with the purpose that we choose. Don’t get me wrong, there are still challenges, but we are getting there. And so can you. I promise. You are worth it and your family is worth it – you’ve worked hard and you deserve it.
